Chandigarh WeatherIf you are planning to visit Chandigarh, the 'City Beautiful', somewhere in this year, then it is better to get all the information on the climate of the city beforehand. This would help you decide the exact time of your trip. Chandigarh has a typical weather experienced by any other Northern city of India. The city enjoys three major seasons, summer, winter and monsoon, apart from the relatively shorter autumn. It experiences extreme temperatures in the summer and winter, while monsoon makes its lush with greenery. The best time to visit Chandigarh is from the mid of September to the end of March. Let us get some more information on the weather of Chandigarh.

Summer
Summer season in Chandigarh stretches from the month of mid-March to mid-June. The temperature starts rising from mid of March and reaches extreme in May and June. The hot weather is accompanied by occasional drizzles and thunder storms. The maximum and minimum mean temperature during the season is about 40°C and 25°C, respectively. The temperature, at times, rises to even 45°C, towards the end of the season. Most of the city people flock to hill stations located in the vicinity, at a distance of around 50-250 km, in order to escape the heat.

Monsoon
The monsoon season in Chandigarh begins from the end of June and stretches on till the mid of September. Southwest monsoons, with high intensity showers, commence in late June and come as a great relief from the scorching heat of summers. The annual rainfall varies from 700 mm to 1200 mm. In monsoon, the whole of Chandigarh looks green and fresh, with the outpour of drizzling rain. From mid-September, the rain slows down and there is the onset of the post-monsoon or autumn season. This weather continues till mid-November. Temperature ranges from 13°C to 36°C. The weather is sunny and pleasant and attracts lots of tourists to the city.

Winter
In Chandigarh, the winter season starts from the mid-November and lasts till the mid of March. Temperature lowers down considerably, with the maximum temperature being somewhere around 20°C and the minimum going down to 3.6°C. With the start of winters, in November, the city gets slashed with another wave of monsoons. This helps in reducing the temperature further, making December and January being almost chilly and frosty. January is the coldest month in the city. Winds are generally light and blow from northwest to southeast direction.
