Durga Puja FestivalDurga Puja festival is one of the major festivals celebrated by the Bengalis. The festival is dedicated to Ma Durga, the Goddess of power, also known as Shakti. It is believed that festival of Durga Puja commemorates the victory of the goddess over the demon Mahishasura. The festival falls in the month of September-October, but the date is not fixed and is calculated every year. The Puja of Ma Durga involves a large number of rituals that have to be followed very strictly.

Starting from the first day of the Puja, known as Sashthi, these rituals go on till the last day, known as Dashami or Bijoya Dashami. There is a different ritual for each of the five days that the Puja continues. Socializing with relatives and friends, visiting pandals, eating mouthwatering food and dancing to the drumbeats is the way to enjoy the Durga Puja festival. Durga Pooja celebrations in New Delhi, the capital of India, are concentrated mainly in the Chitranjan Park area, which is a Bengali predominant locality. The Durga Puja Pandals in the Chitranjan Park area are also considered to be the best in the city.
