Bhadra Fort is one of the majestic buildings in the city of Ahmedabad. The fort was constructed by Sultan Ahmed Shah in the year 1411 AD. It houses a number of palatial buildings, along with the sprawling Nagina Baugh. Bhadra fort covers an astounding area of 43 acres and its walls once encircled the entire city. The fort is a worth seeing monument in the state of Gujarat. It even houses a temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess, Bhadra Kali, which is the main reason why it was named as Bhadra Fort.

It is now the venue of flag hoisting on Independence Day and Republic Day. The fort is a popular tourist spot in the city and stands tall with all its royal grandeur. The main attributes of the Bhadra Fort are its carved arches, delicately carved balconies and fine Jali work (mesh of the windows). The arches in the fort bear Islamic inscriptions. Its biggest attraction is the Teen Darwaja or the Triple Gateway, a huge gateway located on the eastern side of the fort.

It serves as the entrance to the Royal Square, situated in the fort premises. Bhadra Fort offers a plethora of historical structures to be explored. You can visit the luxurious rooms of the kings, the dungeons, the royal court and other halls and rooms of the yore. Another worth visiting place in the complex is the Sidi Sayed Mosque. Today, the fort houses a number of government offices, like that of the Archeological Survey of India, a post office and the statue of the first industrialist of the city.
