Jalandhar Weather

Jalandhar WeatherThe weather of Jalandhar is basically dry, except the humidity it experiences during the brief south-west monsoon season. The city experiences mainly four seasons in a year - summer, monsoon, post-monsoon and winter season. Let us gather some more information on the weather and climate of Jalandhar.

Summer
The summer season begins from the month of March. Temperature rises rapidly and reaches the extreme in the month of June. The mean daily minimum temperature during the summer is 27oC and the mean daily maximum temperature is around 45oC . Scorching dust laden winds blow on many days in the summer season and on some days in June; the temperature may rise above 45oC as well. There might be thundershowers in the afternoon, at times, which provide a relief from scorching heat.

Monsoon
With the onset of monsoon in July, the temperature falls down considerably. The average rainfall in the district is 703 mm. It increases towards the north-east and varies from 551.3mm at Nakodar to 892.3mm at Adampur. The monsoon season receives about 70 % of the annual rainfall, with the remaining being received as thunderstorms in the summer and rainfall in the winter. July receives the heaviest rainfall. Monsoon lasts till the mid of September. The relative humidity of air increases considerably during this season. The sky is heavily clouded and there are regular downpours as well. On an average, there are 36 rainy days in a year in Jalandhar.

Post Monsoon
Towards the mid-week of September, the intensity of rainfall in Jalandhar decreases. There is sudden drop in the temperature and the atmosphere becomes cold. This is the post-monsoon period, which lasts till the mid week of November. The weather is pleasant and soothing.

Winter
By the later weeks of November, there is a decrease in the temperature of Jalandhar. This period marks the herald of winter season, which lasts till the first week of March. January is the coldest month. The mean daily maximum temperature is about 19oC and the daily minimum temperature is about 6oC , which usually occurs in the month of January. Blowing of cold waves is a usual occurrence here, which leads to the further lowering of temperature, sometimes going below 0oC .
