Moradabad is one of the most important commercial towns not only in Uttar Pradesh but also in the whole of North India. In fact, Moradabad is the largest producer of Copper and its alloys in Asia and is counted among the top five Copper-stuff exporting centers in the world. The city is famous throughout the world for its subtle copper and bronze works that are exported to hundreds of countries through out the world. This is reason, precisely, why Moradabad is also known as 'Peetal Nagari' or Copper Town.

The city takes its name from Prince Murad Bux who was the youngest son of Emperor Shah Jahan, the emperor who commissioned Taj. It was Murad Bux who re-christened it to Moradabad from Rustom Nagar in mid 17th century. The prince was later deceived and murdered in his battle for succession with Prince Aurangzeb. The city has grown manifold since then and has firmly established itself as flourishing commercial town.

In recent years, the city has seen sudden spurt in construction works that has resulted in to the establishment of several posh high-end societies and townships. Another thing that you will find very common in Moradabad are industrial export houses.
