Tourist Attractions

Tourist AttractionsNainital is a pleasant and delightful little hill station located in Kumaon foothills. It is particularly know for its pristine natural beauty and famous as the location of one of the 48 Durga Shakti Peeth. Since it was the summer seat of the Britishers, it is hard not to notice the English charm all around in the form of buildings, roads, cultural lodges etc. Nainital has recently emerged as the hot favorite of domestic tourists in search of that transitional half-commercialized natural exquisiteness. Nainital gives it all and more. Check the tourist places one must visit while in Nainital.

Naini Lake
The whole of Nainital town is situated around the Naini Lake. Naini Lake is captivating and spellbinding and bears an unruffled aura around it. Also known as the Tri-Rishi Lake, it has boating and yachting facilities at nominal charges.

Naina Devi Temple
Considered a Shakti Peeth of Maa Durga, this temple was destroyed during the 1880 landslide. Located on the northern shore of the Naini Lake, it has been rebuilt since.

Jim Corbett National Park
Jim Corbett National Park used to be just another Himalayan forest until in 1936 it was demarcated as a reserve area by the British Government. Jim Corbett Park is spread over 520 sq kms and is covered with huge stretches of Savannah type grasslands and Sal forests.

Boat House club
The Boat House Club, build in mid-19th century, by the beautiful lake side is a must see in Nainital. It has a wooden floored bar where you can occupy a table facing the lake which shimmers through the day and reflects the well lit Nainital city during the evenings. It certainly is a place worth visiting when you are in Nainital.

The Governor's House
The Raj Bhavan, with its sprawling garden, is an estate spreading across an area of 220 acres. This majestic building was once the residence of the Governor of United Provinces during British era. The façade of this colonial architecture which has 113 rooms replicates the shape of British crown. Today this building is the official residence of the Governor of Uttarakhand state. There are many things to see here like the beautifully made fireplace in the lobby, the letter box next to the Governor's writing table and the conservatories which are called 'glass houses'.

Other interesting places worth visiting in Nainital included the China peak and Gurney House. China peak, at 8,579 ft. above the sea level, offers breath taking view of surrounding snow capped Himalayan peaks and also the city of Nainital, while Gurney House is where the legendary Jim Corbett lived.

Snow View
St John’s Church, Nainital Located at an elevation of 2,270 m above sea level, it can be reached only by cable cars or hill ponies. This classic point over the ‘Sher-ka-Danda’ ridge puts forward attention-grabbing sceneries of the Himalayan Mountains and the Tibetan borders.

St John’s Church
St John’s Church is one of the oldest built structures (made in 1847) of Nainital. It is a very important place to visit and is regularly visited by both locals and tourists alike.

Hanuman Garhi
Hanuman Garhi was set up by Baba Neem Kiroli at an altitude of 1951 meters. It is particularly famous for offering spectacular views of sunset. There is an ancient but imposing Hanuman temple at the top of Hanuman Garh.
